We are a family Band originally from Caithness. Jim Mackay's Dance Band has been on the go since 1957. Taking not so many shapes and forms, Jim has a reputation of keeping the same line up for as long as he could. The experience of which helping him for the following that he has today.

JIM MACKAY: The Leader of the band. Also a renownd accordion teacher in Inverness.

TOM MACKAY: Drummer. Tom is Jim's son He joined the band on the 28th February 1975. "The first dance was a Labour party Dinner Dance at the John O Groats Hotel. I had a second hand drum kit that I bought for £25.00 from the previous drummer, Colin Swanson who left to join the Police. At that time it was a four piece band. 2 accordionists, Jim & George, Nicol on keyboard and myself on drums. That line up continued until May or June that year when Donald joined playing piano and vocals. The five piece played together until Nicol moved to New Zealand and George left at the same time. That left the trio. We played all over the country from Orkney to Newcastle and Aberdeen to the Western Isles. I built up my drum kit between 1975 and 1979 and then in 1984 I bought a new premier crown kit, I still use to this day. The band has had various members during the years but has remained primarily a family band right up to the present day.
"I still love playing."

GRAEME MACKAY:Shand morino player. Graeme is Toms son. Graeme has been playing with the band since 2000. Although he played in Meoran Ciuil with his brothers Alan and Stephen from 1995. as well as playing in the band, he follows a solo career, being resident accordion player in various venues (see events page), he is also available for other events. Having had a midi system fitted to his left hand, it makes playing solo that wee bit easier and less bare. He also plays the bass part of the band.

Graeme has also been the senior Scottish accordion champion at Musselburgh 2002 & 2009 and won many button box trophies.

STEPHEN MACKAY:Fiddle player. Stephen is Graeme's brother, Toms son and Jims Grandson. He has played with the band since 2000 but played with them unofficially for a few years before that. Playing with brother Graeme in Meoran Ciuil made Graeme and Stephen a good team have close styles.
